Final Response
Write a literature response to The Revealers showing how and when you used the reading strategies of reflecting, predicting, questioning, summarizing , and visualizing in your reading of the novel. Include page numbers for examples from the text. Refer to your Daybook if you need a review of the strategies.
I find the best way to understand statements is by reading the statement and visualizing it instantly. It helps me understand because I get a better picture and it helps me to do tasks on it, such as comprehension.
On (pg.5-6), Russel's bike was lying in front 0f Richie so he got angry at Russel. Richie looked vicious so Russel said "bad bike", to make Richie feel happy. But he thought he was stupid. I can visualize this whole paragraph easily thus I understand better. But in some parts it is really hard to visualize so I use other strategies such as, questioning.

Perspective

Envision yourself as Russell, Elliot, or Catlina. Describe how you would feel and react to the bullies in the story.

If f I was Russel i would be very scared go around and get cofe when he knows that the school bully is going to get him but i would be brave enough to speak for myself and complain to an adult since he has taken the situation so far.

I would tell an adult because i would not be able to handle the situattion independentlly. But from the begining I would complain or talk it out with him so this does not get worse.

Revealers- Keeping Quiet

Novel connection. When Richie punches Russell in the face, his mother wants to call the principal, however, Russell wants to keep quiet about the whole incident. Russell’s mom’s response was, “I’m not doing nothing. If one adult did this to another, he be in jail. Why should it be different for kids?” (p. 45)

Blog Question: Should kids solve their own problems or should adults/parents get involved? Explain.

Kids should learn to be independent but, depending on the problem. If the problem is a big factor and if it is not getting better they should talk to an adult and the adult should take action. The adult should not get involved when he/she thinks it is a small problem but they should give good advice . Like in 'The Revealers,' Russell's mom wants to help him solve his problem, but he doesn't want people to think of him, as a complainer, and tells his mom to ignore the problem (p. 45). So I think he should include his mum because he said wrong stuff and made a complete mess. Some kids don't have the ability to solve problems so it is good to take advice.
When a problem occurs kids should think about the problem and then take action.
